Hailing from Carey Park in East Perth’s country zone, Jeremy Barnard debuted for the Royals in 1993 and went on to enjoy an illustrious 12 season career with the club. A natural on-field leader, his career highlights came in 2000-1-2 when he captained the team to a hat trick of flags. All told he played 221 games and kicked 98 goals for the club and represented Western Australia in a loss to South Australia in Adelaide in 1998. Probably best suited to a defensive commission, he also liked to kick a goal, and indeed was the Royals’ top goal kicker in 1999, albeit with the comparatively meagre total of 23 goals.¹

1. This was actually the lowest tally for an East Perth leading goal kicker since Paddy Hebbard registered the same number in 1921.
