John Sandland was a handy forward who served Glenelg well in 105 SANFL games between 1970 and 1974, during which he booted 224 goals. At the end of his debut season he played in a grand final clash with Sturt, when he was one of the vanquished Tigers’ best players. He went on to enjoy premiership success in 1973 when he contributed four goals to the Bays’ 21.11 to 19.16 grand final defeat of North Adelaide, the club with which he would round off his league career with 22 appearances and 62 goals in 1975-6.
