Sydney took Neil Brunton from local club Holroyd-Parramatta Blacktown early in the 1991 season and he made his senior AFL debut in round four of that year. Thereafter he spent most of the season in the reserves, but from 1992 he became a regular senior player. Extremely hard working and competitive, he was ideally suited to the role of run-with player or tagger. His five season stint with the Swans saw him play 71 AFL games and score 10 goals. In 1993 he played state of origin football for New South Wales-ACT. After leaving Sydney he captain-coached AFL Sydney club Campbelltown to a premiership in 1999.
