Ray Powell was a half forward and utility with a keen eye for goal. He joined Essendon in 1942 from Essendon Stars and went on to play 49 VFL games and kick 68 goals for the club over half a dozen seasons. His tally of 42 goals in 1944 topped the Bombers’ list. After leaving Essendon he played 42 games and scored 99 goals for VFA side Brunswick from 1947 to 1949, and later coached Ascot Vale.
