Rob Barton was Sturt's top rover for much of his 133 game, 166 goal SANFL career with the club from 1972 to 1978. He was a key member of Double Blues grand final winning teams in 1974 against Glenelg and 1976 against Port Adelaide while his last game in a Sturt jumper was that of 1978 versus Norwood, which was unsuccessful. By strange coincidence the 1979 season saw Barton lining up with the Redlegs with whom he would finish his League career. Between 1979 and 1981 he added a final 22 career games and 34 goals without ever quite managing to recapture the consistently high quality form he had exhibited at Sturt.
