Stanley Cox was a highly capable defender for West Torrens during and just after World War Two. He played a total of 149 senior games for the club from 1940 to 1947, winning its best and fairest award in 1940. His four interstate appearances for South Australia included games at the 1947 Hobart carnival. When Torrens downed Port Adelaide by 13 points in the 1945 grand final Cox lined up on a half back flank and was widely acknowledged as one of the best players on view.
