Terry Devery was a match-winning rover, originally from Box Hill, who joined Morningside after playing 31 VFL games with Footscray from 1957 to 1961. Captain-coach of the Panthers from 1962 to 1965, he led them to their first final series in 1963 and 1964, culminating in their first premiership in 1965. He formed an awesome combination with ruck giant Terry Johnston and this combination was instrumental in dragging the Panthers out of the doldrums.
Runner-up in the Grogan Medal in 1962, Devery played six games for Queensland, and was regularly among the Maroons' best. He was named captain of the Morningside 'Team of the Half Century' announced in 2001. Devery also captain-coached North Ballarat for three seasons from 1966 to 1968.
