After a highly promising start to his league career with Footscray in 1995, Tyson Lane arguably failed fully to fulfil his potential. His early promise was highlighted by a Norwich Rising Star nomination on debut, and Brownlow votes in two of his first four games. However, thereafter he struggled to hold down a regular place in what was a powerful Bulldogs line-up, and after managing just 19 games and 19 goals in four seasons he was traded to Collingwood.
Used mainly across half forward or on the ball, Lane flattered to deceive in his first season with the Magpies, when he missed just a couple of games. However, thereafter he struggled to consolidate a spot in the side, and in 2003 he retired from the AFL having added a final 42 games and 30 goals to his respective career tallies. He later coached in both Queensland and Victoria.
