John Wade - always referred to as ‘Jack’ - was a fine all-round sportsman who played interstate badminton in addition to enjoying a top level football career in two states. That football career commenced with 49 league games for Port Adelaide between 1927 and 1929, following which he stood out of football for a year seeking a clearance to South Melbourne. His VFL career with South comprised 26 games from 1931 to 1933. Whilst with Port he had earned state selection for South Australia four times.
