Ray Slocum progressed through the ranks at Fitzroy prior to making his senior debut in 1957. Initially used mainly as a rover or half forward flanker he developed into a wingman who was a game competitor despite conceding height and weight to most of his opponents. When he retired in 1965 he had played 121 VFL games for the Lions and kicked 47 goals. He later coached Fitzroy’s reserves.
