Nine games on a Saturday!

Comment - Uh Andrew it's a nice thought, but there are many TV broadcast issues with it. Extra commentators would need to be paid for it (both Seven and Foxtel use their teams twice over a weekend) and the equipment would need to be available as well to cover

Rethinking the historical record

Comment - This issue should really be a club thing and not a league thing as such. I'm not saying the AFL should ignore it - heck they have no respect for the history of the game outside of themselves and I know that through personal experience!! They only ran

Drawing the best conclusion

Comment - Here's a local scenario when extra time would have been useful - similar to what faced Essendon in 1990. In 1965 in the Federal FL, Springvale got the week off into the grand final and simply had to wait for the preliminary final between Glenhuntly a

About Me

Football Historian since 1992. Umpire since 1983, except 85-87 and 04-08 (presently as a fill in). Working feverishly on all ladders back to the beginning. I don't financially support the AFL (have only paid at the gate once since 1986 - 1992 - and have not been at all since 2001, not counting the NAB Cup game in 2009 for the Black Saturday bushfires). Supported Collingwood as a child. Supported Preston in the VFA/VFL. The Bullants died when the club name changed to Northern Blues, but they returned in the VAFA in 2016.

Favourite Players

Peter McKenna and most other full forwards

Favourite Moment

Eight grand finals as a field umpire, being at the MCG for John Greening's comeback in 1974, and for Kevin Bartlett's 400th game in 1983 (much respect). Watching on TV during a break in umpiring as Tony Lockett made it 1300 in Sydney. Donvale beating Vermont in the 1996 EDFL Division 1 grand final. Seeing Hillside when their first senior flag ever in 2013.
