Match Report

Geelong won their first two encounters against Gold Coast by an average of over 100 points, but it was much closer this time around. The Cats looked flat (maybe something to do with their week-long holiday in the Sunshine state before this match?) and could be considered lucky to have come away with the four points. The Suns led at quarter and half-time and were playing the better football up until that point. They actually won every quarter except the third, which proved to be the difference. Seven goals to three in that quarter was all it took for Geelong to notch up their ninth win of the season. Suns captain, and Geelong legend, Gary Ablett was down a touch on his usual high standards, but he proved to be a problem for his former side. Tom Hawkins and Paul Chapman kicked four goals each. Three of Chapman’s goals came in a five minute period during the second quarter.

COACHES COMMENTS
Guy McKenna (GC): We were 30 points down in that last quarter, it would have been, not acceptable, but I thought the boys to hang on and fight out the last quarter … and finish 14 points down against Geelong was a tick in the box. Unfortunately the third quarter was our bogey quarter again.

Chris Scott(Geel): I can't put my finger on it. We'll keep working as hard as we can to get better at it. We can all look for signs and symbols and omens - that's probably your (the media's) job. We'll look at the things we can improve and make sure we play as well as we possibly can next week.

Umpires: Rosebury, Ryan, Kamolins
