Having played for VJFA side Preston, and Carlton District, Harry Bell was recruited by Carlton. After playing for and captaining the club’s junior team in 1920 he made his senior debut the following year. A serviceable rather than outstanding footballer, he played 56 VFL games and scored five goals for the Blues between 1921 and 1927. Bell later served as Carlton club secretary from 1940 to 1951. He was also the co-author, along with Hugh Buggy, of The Carlton Story, a book which has in small measure been used as a source for this series of profiles.
