The football season was advanced another stage on Saturday, when some most interesting matches were played. The game between South Melbourne and Carlton, which resulted in a draw, and the match, between Fitzroy and Collingwood, which was won by the former by 2 points, roused the vast crowds to great enthusiasm.
South Melbourne and Carlton have played many wonderful games of recent years, and the match on Saturday was their third draw since 1911. The results of these games were:—
