Match Report
This was a match that had no bearing on the top half of the ladder but was significant nonetheless for the AFL's two fledgling clubs. Gold Coast was able to avenge it's earlier season loss to the Giants and finally give its hometown fans something to cheer about by registering the Suns' first-ever win at Metricon Stadium. In the process, it was able to extricate itself from bottom place on the ladder and relegate GWS to that position. Gold Coast's win was highlighted by solid performances from David Swallow, Danny Stanley and Gary Ablett who, while down on his usual possession count, kicked three goals. Meanwhile, there were positive signs for the Giants, who managed to match it with the Suns for much of the game and at times threatened to run over the top of Gold Coast. 18-year-old Will Hoskin-Elliott made the most of his opportunities with five goals, while Adam Treloar was prominent with 32 possessions.
In a show of appreciation for the Gold Coast fans, Guy McKenna directed his charges to sing the club theme song out on the ground after the match. With Gold Coast facing three near-certain losses to round out the season, the Giants' best chance of avoiding a replication of the Suns' first-season wooden spoon will come when they take on Melbourne in Canberra in Round 21.

Guy McKenna: Hopefully we've got the monkey off our back for home games and we can take that into next week against Hawthorn.
Kevin Sheedy: We probably could have won the game if we played four quarters but we didn't. In fairness to Gold Coast they did.
