Match Report

Adelaide suffered a surprise loss to North Melbourne just six days before this contest. Coach Brenton Sanderson called his players ‘impostors’ in the post-match. They started their clash against Richmond in very similar fashion to their performance against the Kangaroos. The Tigers stunned the parochial Crows home crowd, piling on eight goals to three in a dominant first quarter display to lead by 33 points. But the Tigers would kick just five more majors for the game – two coming late in the last quarter. Crows spearhead Taylor Walker (five goals) played a crucial role in getting his side back in the contest, while midfielder Scott Thompson’s game was also decisive. Both sides came out of the brutal encounter with injury concerns. Richmond small forward Jake King suffered a knee injury and Crows' skipper Nathan Van Berlo was subbed off at half-time. The win ensured the Crows had a share of second place on the ladder, while Richmond found themselves in the familiar spot of ninth just over halfway through the home and away season.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brenton Sanderson (Adel): [I'm] very relieved after what we saw in the first quarter to get the four points against a really good side and a side that was hungry today…their pressure was incredible at the start of the game. Richmond certainly jumped us, we turned the ball over in bad spots of the ground today and they hurt us.

Damien Hardwick (Rich): To lose the way we did towards the end of the game was really disappointing, we just couldn't win the contests. [There's] not a great deal to say to be honest.

Umpires: Ryan, Nicholls, McInerney
